Auditions for Auburn University's Department of Theatre's production of "Intimate Apparel" will take place in the Telfair Peet Theatre tomorrow, Aug. 18 between 6:30 and 11 p.m. “Intimate Apparel” demands a diverse cast, and auditions are open to all members of the Auburn University community. Set in New York City in 1905, “Intimate Apparel” examines the strains that boundaries such as class, race, ethnicity and religion place on love. Theatre majors should prepare one contemporary, dramatic monologue and one non-realistic monologue for the audition. Non-majors need only prepare one contemporary, dramatic monologue or be prepared to do a cold reading of a monologue. Monologues should be no longer than three minutes. The Acting Company and Guthrie Theater's co-production and national tour of "Henry V" is coming to the Telfair Peet Theatre at Auburn University on April 15 at 7:30 p.m. for one performance only. Shakespeare's bold saga follows the charismatic warrior King Henry V and his band of men through the brutality of war as they confront heavy opposition and face their own destinies in an aggressive pursuit for the French crown. Each act is introduced by a chorus that sets the scene for the action to follow. Tickets are $20 and are available by calling 844-4154.

Auburn University Theatre has announced the premiere of The America Play Podcast. The podcast is a weekly audio program featuring interviews with the faculty, students and professionals who make up the cast and production staff of Suzan-Lori Parks' "The America Play," which runs April 1-5 on the main stage of the Telfair B. Peet Theatre. The podcast can be found on the Auburn University Theatre's Web site at www.auburnuniversitytheatre.org.

The Department of Theatre will hold auditions for Suzan-Lori Parks' "The America Play" on Wednesday, Jan. 21, from 6:30-10:30 p.m. in the theatre upstairs. Auditions are open to all members of the Auburn University community. Those who audition should prepare a two-minute poem to perform at the audition; memorization is recommended but not required. "The America Play," although difficult to summarize due to its abstract form, examines the life of an African American gravedigger who earns a reputation for impersonating Abraham Lincoln and the attempts of his family to recover his remains from the "great hole of history." Theatre professor Robin Jaffe and students of the theatre technology class will be painting an image of Auburn University mascot Aubie in front of Cater Hall lawn Tuesday, Nov. 4, from 7:30-10:45 a.m. This is a class assignment to learn and demonstrate the process of using grid transfer and cartooning for enlarging a smaller image into a larger one. This method of enlargement is often used in scenic painting for theatrical productions. The award-winning comedy "Picasso at the Lapin Agile" leads off a set of five productions in the 2008-2009 season of Auburn University Theatre on Telfair Peet Theatre's main stage. The season begins Wednesday, Sept. 24, with "Picasso," which depicts an imaginary meeting between two of the 20th century's greatest minds: Albert Einstein and Pablo Picasso. It runs Sept. 24-26, 28 and Oct. 1-4, with curtain at 7:30 p.m. on weeknights and Saturday and 2:30 p.m. Sunday. Written by Steve Martin, the comedy is set in a Paris bistro in 1904. Martin, best known as an actor and comedian, wrote "Picasso at the Lapin Agile" in the early 1990s and the play enjoyed commercial success in New York, Los Angeles and Chicago, where it opened in 1993 at the world-famous Steppenwolf Theatre Company. Tickets are available at the theatre box office weekdays from noon-5 p.m. Admission is free for students with a valid ID. Public admission is $20, senior citizens and faculty/staff pay $15 and grade school and high school students pay $10. Group rates are available. Auditions for Steve Martin's Picasso at the Lapin Agile (directed by Scott Phillips) and Oscar Wilde's Lady Windermere's Fan (directed by Daydrie Hague) will be held on the main stage of Telfair Peet Theatre on Tuesday, Aug. 19, at 6:30 p.m. All AU students, regardless of major, are welcomed and encouraged to audition. Theatre majors should prepare a one-minute monologue from a contemporary comedy and be prepared to perform some cold readings. Non-majors are also welcome to come with a prepared monologue but are not required to do so. Students may audition for one or both productions. Picasso runs from Sept. 24-Oct. 4; Lady Windermere opens Nov. 13 and runs through Nov. 21.

The Auburn University Theatre presents "Women & Love," a musical celebration of women and those they love, beginning with the very first couple, Adam and Eve. To enjoy excerpts from many of the jewels of the American Musical Theatre, join us for a night of wine, women and song! "Women & Love" is directed by Daydrie Hague with music direction by Joseph Bates and choreography by Adrienne Wilson. Performances run July 9-12 at 7:30 p.m. each day. The Department of Theatre will have a course in Ballet and Musical Theatre Dance (THEA 2840) at the Telfair Peet Theatre Dance Studio during the second mini-semester June 3-Aug. 4, Monday-Friday, 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. Participants will get three credit hours; no prerequisite is required. The instructor will be Judith Nelson, associate professor of theatre. She has been a professional dancer, choreographer, actor and teacher for more than 25 years, working in musical theatre and dance companies in New York, Los Angeles and around the U.S. and Europe. The play, "Little Shop of Horrors," will continue at the Telfair Peet Theatre April 15-19. Audrey II, the infamous bloodthirsty plant, pays a visit to the Auburn University theatre in this spring production. The popular rock musical is based on the 1960 Roger Corman cult movie of the same name. The musical boasts music by Alan Menken and lyrics and the book by Howard Ashman, the duo who created other memorable characters including Ariel in "The Little Mermaid" and Belle in "Beauty and the Beast."
