Registration still available for community courses

Students can still sign up for summer Auburn University community courses. Beginning in July, classes will be available in investment basics, calligraphy, jewelry design, floral arrangement, ACT/SAT prep, ballroom dance and Texas two-step. There are also introductory workshops in belly dance and tai chi. Finally, the boating safety course has been rescheduled for the first week in August to allow those interested to meet license requirements before Labor Day

Boating safety course offered on campus

200820nsbcThe Outreach Program Office will offer a boating safety course through the Alabama State Marine Police. This is a two-session course, and at the end of successfully completing the class you will receive a certificate from the state of Alabama that allows you to receive your boating license. Lifeguard training course begins today

The lifeguard training course is designed to satisfy the requirements for the American Red Cross Lifeguard Training Certificate and certify participants as qualified indoor/outdoor pool lifeguards. CPR for the Professional Rescuer (CPR/PR) is included as part of this class. Participants must be at least 15 years old and be a proficient swimmer. The program fee includes a $40 non-refundable fee for the swim test that will be administered at the beginning of the course. (You must swim 300 yards: 100 yards freestyle, 100 yards breast, and the last 100 of your choice, and retrieve a 10-lb. object from the pool and swim with it for 20 yards. Please be sure you can do this before enrolling). Participants MUST pass the swim test in order to continue with the course. Fee covers all pool use and instruction. Lifeguard Certification and First Aid are for 3 years; CPR/PR Certification and AED are for 1 year. The class starts March 23 and ends March 31. Unusual offerings this term include bird watching for beginners, calligraphy, flowers for weddings, dancing the Texas two-step, drawing, container gardening, jewelry design, jobs: from resumes to interviews, and lifeguard training.
