White House internship application now available for summer 2009

720px-us-whitehouse-logoThe application for the White House internship program is now available for students interested in a summer 2009 internship. The application deadline is March 22. Applicants must be U.S. citizens who are at least 18 years old and enrolled in a college/university or a recent graduate within the past two years. The internship program will take place from May 22 through August 14. The application and additional information are available at http://www.whitehouse.gov/about/internships/. Feb. 1: Washington Internships for Native Students, Women's Health Summer Research Internship Program; Feb. 6: Senator Jeff Sessions; Feb. 10: Biomedical Engineering Summer Internship Program; Feb. 13: Senator Richard Shelby, Congressional Black Caucus Foundation Congressional Internship; Feb. 15: United States Agency for International Development; Feb. 27: Congressman Spencer Bachus, Congressman Jo Bonner, Making the Difference Federal Internship Program. Dauphin Island Sea Lab open to Auburn students

summerprogheader1The Dauphin Island Sea Lab is now accepting enrollment in its 2009 summer courses for students of its consortium members, which includes Auburn University. Three sessions are available: May 18-29, June 1-July 3 and July 6-Aug. 7. Located on a barrier island in the Gulf of Mexico, the Dauphin Island Sea Lab offers a variety of intensive marine science courses taught by experienced educators and scientists. Established in 1971 by the state legislature, the lab is a consortium of 21 four-year Alabama colleges and universities and is considered the marine science campus for these institutions of higher learning. Auburn’s advisor is Alumni Professor Ken Halanych, Department of Biological Sciences, who serves as a Sea Lab Program committee member. Disney recruiters on campus this week

Disney recruiters will be on campus this week interviewing for internship opportunities at the Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando, Fla., and the Disneyland Resort in Annaheim, Calif. Two one-hour information sessions will be held Monday, Sept. 15, at 5 p.m. (Auburn University Student Center, Room 2310) and Tuesday, Sept. 16, at 3 p.m. (Auburn University Student Center, Room 2216). The Disney College Program is open to all class levels and majors. Students will live in company-provided housing while working and possibly even earning college credit at one of the largest vacation spots in the world. Interested students can fill out an application online and bring it to the presentation with them by visiting www.disneycollegeprogram.com. The University Program Council presents the Golden Dragon Acrobats Tuesday, Sept. 9, at 7:30 p.m. in the Student Activities Center. The Golden Dragon Acrobats represent the best of a time honored tradition that began more than 27 centuries ago. Direct from Hebei, China, this company has traveled around the world to all 50 states and to more than 65 countries on five continents. The Alabama Legislative Internship program has opportunities for students to intern during the state legislature's 2009 regular session. The program was established to allow interns to observe and participate in the legislative process of state government and it runs Feb. 2-May 18 in Montgomery, Ala. The deadline to apply is Oct. 31. Outreach Program Office – Summer Community Courses

This summer the Outreach Program Office will offer new classes in fabric dying, portrait photography, tropical fish keeping and card tricks. If you want to take any of the dancing classes or the basic handgun class, sign up soon, as these classes fill early. Children will have the opportunity to learn Spanish, magic tricks, and creative writing. This summer the Outreach Program Office will also offer test prep classes for ACT/SAT, GMAT and GRE. Department of Theatre offering course in Ballet and Musical Theatre Dance

The Department of Theatre will have a course in Ballet and Musical Theatre Dance (THEA 2840) at the Telfair Peet Theatre Dance Studio during the second mini-semester June 3-Aug. 4, Monday-Friday, 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. Participants will get three credit hours; no prerequisite is required. The instructor will be Judith Nelson, associate professor of theatre. She has been a professional dancer, choreographer, actor and teacher for more than 25 years, working in musical theatre and dance companies in New York, Los Angeles and around the U.S. and Europe.
