Liberal Arts Learning Community students help prepare teens for college
Students from two College of Liberal Arts Learning Communities recently used video conferencing technology to lead Montgomery area teens in interactive sessions on preparing for college. The event, held on Oct. 15, was held in collaboration with Bridge Builders, a two-year youth leadership program of the Central Alabama Community Foundation.
CLA students enrolled in UNIV 1050: Success Strategies led the meeting from a video conference room on the Auburn University campus, while Montgomery teens participated in a similar room on the Auburn University Montgomery campus. Topics for discussion included leadership styles, college choices and college challenges. Students discussed choosing a major, living on campus and away from home, academic workload and college admissions.
Montgomery Bridge Builders, developed by Bridges USA of Memphis, Tenn., works with students from public, private, parochial and home schools to develop future leaders who will lay aside individual, social, economic and cultural differences to work for the benefit of all. Program director, Josh McFall, recently graduated from the College of Liberal Arts at Auburn University with a master's degree in communications.
The event was a project of the Community and Civic Engagement Initiative in the College of Liberal Arts. For more information on the initiative, visit www.auburn.edu/cce.
