Portion of Magnolia Avenue to close beginning today
The portion of Magnolia Avenue between Donahue Drive and Cox Street will be closed for road construction beginning today. The closure is expected to last up to six weeks. Westbound traffic on Magnolia Avenue will be rerouted to Donahue Drive via Thomas Street and Glenn Avenue. Eastbound traffic will be rerouted back to Magnolia Avenue via Donahue Drive, Glenn Avenue and Cox Street. A map detailing the closure and detours is available on the city's Web site at http://www.auburnalabama.org/news/2009/pw032409.pdf. This road construction project is part of the Donahue Drive and Magnolia Avenue Intersection Improvements Project approved by Auburn voters earlier this year as part of the Special Five Mill Projects Referendum. Project work includes the addition of left and right turn lanes at the intersection of Donahue Drive and Magnolia Avenue. The project also includes resurfacing Magnolia Avenue from College Street to Donahue Drive, sidewalk improvements and the installation of crosswalks along Magnolia Avenue.

There is way to much construction going on at the moment…Maybe we should just rope off the entire school so no one can get to class?

I am happy about progress, but it really is way to much construction. Is it every going to end? Magnolia avenue is likely the third most traveled road in Auburn. Couldn’t it wait until summertime when the population drops by about 20,000?

Rerouting to West Glenn was a very well thought out plan. I live across the street and that one way road is backed up all the way from Glenn to Magnolia all day. It is like impossible to turn left across Glenn anytime, much less now.

It is getting to the point that it is almost quicker to get to Montgomery than to get to class on campus. Why couldn’t this have waited until the school year was over? There is too much traffic on the other roads now causing them to come to a halt. At the very least get someone out there at the nearby intersections to direct traffic during the busiest hours. There are way to many backups caused by rerouted traffic trying to make a left turn without a left turn signal at the intersection.
