Auburn University faculty art is on display
The Jule Collins Smith Museum of Fine Art is presenting an opportunity to view the artistry of Auburn University faculty through May 30 in its Bill L. Harbert Gallery and Gallery C. The exhibition features paintings, sculpture, works on paper, ceramics and other media as it reveals the unique interests and skills of the Department of Art's diverse studio faculty. Lectures will be given on Tuesdays through May 30, usually at 2:30 p.m., in the museum auditorium or galleries. On Tuesday, March 31, at 3:30 p.m., Joyce de Vries will give a lecture titled "Material Culture and Consumption Practices in Early Modern Italy." She holds a Ph.D. in the history of art from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Her research concerns the art and visual culture of Early Modern (14th-17th century) Italy, and, in particular, issues associated with visual constructions of gender and the historical importance of the decorative arts.
