Spring breakers traveling to Mexico urged to take precautions
If you are planning to travel to Mexico for spring break, the Auburn University Department of Public Safety and Security encourages you to rethink your travel plans. The U.S. Department of State has issued a Travel Alert for Mexico due to increased violence in the country, including along the U.S./Mexico border. Please review the State Department's safety bulletin, "Spring Break In Mexico - Know Before You Go!" at http://travel.state.gov/travel/cis_pa_tw/spring_break_mexico/spring_break_mexico_2812.html. This bulletin contains useful information, including entry requirements, Mexican law, alcohol and drug use, safety and security, and city-specific information. Also, you should review the current Mexico Travel Alert at http://travel.state.gov/travel/cis_pa_tw/pa/pa_3028.html. If you are traveling out of the country, take a moment to register with the State Department at https://travelregistration.state.gov/ibrs/ui/. This will allow you to receive new travel alerts and warnings by e-mail and will allow the State Department to better assist you in the event of an emergency abroad. Please use standard safety precautions to protect yourself so that you can have a fun and safe spring break.
