Tom Wilkey speaking on ‘The Art and Science of Elections’
Tom Wilkey, the executive director of the U.S. Election Assistance Commission, will be the featured speaker for the Gordon Sherman public lecture and reception Monday, Feb. 23, at 4:30 p.m. Wilkey's lecture, titled "The Art and Science of Elections: Lessons from a 40-Year Career," will be held in the auditorium of the Jule Collins Smith Museum of Fine Art. Following the lecture, attendees will have a chance to speak with Wilkey at a reception. Light refreshments will be served. The reception will be held in the grand hall at the Jule Collins Smith Museum. Both the lecture and the reception are free and open to the public. Wilkey, whose career in elections has spanned four decades, has served as the executive director of the U.S. Election Assistance Commission since 2005. The EAC was created by Congress after the 2000 presidential election and the passage of the Help America Vote Act in 2002. It is charged with helping state and local jurisdictions improve the election and voter registration system in the U.S. Part of that mission is voter education and outreach. The event is sponsored by the Master of Public Administration Program in the College of Liberal Arts and the Jule Collins Smith Museum of Fine Art.
