Special election could allocate funds for Magnolia Avenue improvements
The Auburn City Council has authorized a special election Tuesday, Jan. 27, for citizens to vote on the use of proceeds from the Special Five Mill Tax Fund to provide a number of infrastructure, public works and facility improvements throughout the city. This referendum does not involve the addition of any new taxes, but instead allows voters to approve how existing tax money is used. Two projects that would be funded affect Auburn University: improvements to the Donahue Drive and Magnolia Avenue intersection and the resurfacing and installation of raised crosswalks on Magnolia Avenue. To read more about the special election, see the city's newsletter at http://www.auburnalabama.org/openline/2009/01-09.pdf.

Just throwing it out there that raised crosswalks on a busy street like Magnolia would create mayhem and most people (especially students) would be very annoyed.

I totally disagree with Christina….I think raised crosswalks would ensure safety of students ,espically at night when a number of areas on Magnolia are very dimly lit. In my opinion the current crosswalks on Magnolia are a safety hazard because of constant and congested traffic.
