“Drawing on Alabama” A Statewide Juried Exhibition of Alabama Artists’ Drawings
Department of Art announces the opening reception for the statewide juried exhibition, "Drawing on Alabama 2009" at Biggin Gallery, 101 Biggin Hall. The public is invited to the exhibition's opening events Friday, Jan. 16. Exhibition juror Maura Lynch, curatorial assistant, department of drawing, The Museum of Modern Art, New York, will present a talk in Room 005, Biggin Hall at 4:30 p.m. Following the juror's talk, the public is invited to attend an opening reception that will occur from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Many of the artists represented in Drawing on Alabama will be in attendance. The events are free and open to all. Alabama artists 18 years and older were invited to submit up to three drawings of any medium, format or theme by digital submission in the fall. In early Nov., guest juror Maura Lynch selected from among 168 images submitted by 66 artists representing 24 communities throughout the state. Lynch selected 36 artworks by 33 artists representing 18 communities for the exhibition. Drawing on Alabama will remain on exhibition at Biggin Gallery through Feb. 19. Gallery hours are Monday through Friday, 8 a.m.-4 p.m. or by appointment.
