Auburn University hosting first Academic Integrity Days
The Auburn University Student Government Association, the Academic Honesty Committee and the Office of the Provost have joined together to bring the first Academic Integrity Days to Auburn on Jan. 13-14. The purpose is to promote academic integrity as a core institutional value and its essentiality for maintaining the quality of an Auburn University degree, and to raise awareness of the consequences of violation of the academic honesty code. Guest speaker Bradley Byrne, chancellor of the Alabama Department of Postsecondary Education, will speak at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 13, in 125A Lowder Business Building. He will discuss the importance of ethics and how academic integrity is important to each student. Byrne was appointed by the Alabama State Board of Education in 2007 to serve as chancellor of the Alabama Department of Postsecondary Education, in which he serves as the chief executive officer of Alabama's two-year college system. A roundtable discussion on the importance of academic integrity will be held with Byrne and Auburn faculty and students at 8:30 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 14, in 2222 Student Center. Also on Wednesday, students who "get caught" on the concourse wearing a special academic integrity sticker can win gift cards, prizes and book certificates. Stickers will be available at the Monday night talk. For more information, contact Jacob Watkins at watkija@auburn.edu.
