Department of Art seeking entries for ‘Drawing on Alabama 2009′

The Department of Art is seeking artists from across Alabama to submit entries for a second exhibition of its kind, an all-Alabama juried drawing exhibition titled "Drawing on Alabama 2009." The competitive exhibition will be juried by Maura Lynch, curatorial assistant with the Department of Drawings, Museum of Modern Art, New York. "Drawing on Alabama 2009" is open to all artists ages 18 and over who are currently living in Alabama; the deadline to submit up to three entries is Nov. 7. Works must have been completed in the last two years. Content of the work is open and there are no media/form/process restrictions to the drawings. The jurying process and exhibition installation will occur before the end of December; the first exhibition will open to the public Jan. 7 with the commencement of classes at Auburn University. It will be held in Biggin Gallery, 101 Biggin Hall, and will run through Feb. 20. An opening reception with the juror in attendance will occur Jan. 16 at Biggin Hall. The second exhibition will open in Mobile with a reception March 13 and run through May 3 at Space 301 gallery on Cathedral Square, a downtown landmark and the city's newest attraction.
