SGA accepting nominations for Final Lecture speaker
The Student Government Association's second annual Final Lecture is now collecting nominations for professors. The Final Lecture program was created to give all students the opportunity to participate in a teaching award given on behalf of the student body, recognizing professors who have made extraordinary contributions to Auburn University through classroom teaching and service to the university. For a professor to be nominated and voted by students as the top professor at Auburn University is one of the highest honors students can bestow upon a faculty member. The selected professor delivers a keynote address to the entire university community on a topic of their choice, including words of advice and inspiration applicable to both students beginning their college career and those moving beyond the walls of the university. Joseph Kicklighter was voted by the Class of 2008 as the inaugural recipient of this honor. A video of his address is available at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rm5RSjW5jVk. Faculty nominations for the 2009 Final Lecture are being accepted now through Nov. 21. A committee of seniors comprised of student and academic leaders narrow down the nominations, and the upperclassmen will vote on which of the candidates is most deserving of this honor in the spring. If you have a professor you feel is worthy of this distinction, please e-mail kamberh@auburn.edu with the professor's name and a paragraph informing the selection committee how that professor has influenced you and Auburn University. The Final Lecture for the 2008-2009 academic year is set for April 9, 2009.
