Audubon exhibition is subject of gallery talk at art museum

The Jule Collins Smith Museum of Fine Art will host a free 30-minute gallery talk Tuesday, Oct. 21, at noon about the museum's exhibition of prints in the Louise Hauss and David Brent Miller Audubon Galleries. This permanent collection includes almost 100 prints from the first edition of John James Audubon's monumental "Birds of America," a set of four large folios published between 1827 and 1838. Auburn senior history student Katie Hanson, whose studies concentrate on art history and visual culture, will give the talk. Hanson is serving an academic internship at the museum and has curated its Audubon exhibition around a central theme of taxonomy and nomenclature. She has also written and recorded an audio tour providing museum guests with the calls of the birds represented in the Audubon prints on display.
