Safe Harbor recognizes Domestic Violence Awareness Month with concourse events and HopeLine Program
Safe Harbor, the Women's Resource Center, and Verizon Wireless are partnering in an effort to educate and increase public awareness about domestic violence with events throughout the month. As part of the HopeLine Program, students are asked to donate no-longer-used cell phones. Please look for the HopeLine boxes and donate your no-longer-used phones, between Oct. 6 and Oct. 31, in one of the collection boxes located in the new Student Center, the AU Bookstore, Cater Hall, and other strategic locations around campus. Verizon Wireless collects no-longer-used wireless phones, batteries and accessories in any condition from any wireless service provider. Phones that can be refurbished are distributed or sold for reuse and those without value are disposed of in an environmentally sound way. On Oct. 8, students are invited to visit the Silent Witness display on the Thach concourse. The Silent Witnesses are a visual memorial of cardboard or wooden life-sized silhouettes. Each silhouette bears a display of the story of a man, woman or child who was a victim of domestic or sexual violence. Everyone has a used cell phone they no longer need. These devices can indeed be refurbished and resold at a discounted rate while benefiting the environment. Thanks for posting this.
