National Campus Safety Awareness Month
Each September Security on Campus, Inc. (SOC) sponsors the National Campus Safety Awareness Month. SOC, Inc. is a non-profit grass roots organization dedicated to safe campuses for college and university students across the country. Security on Campus, Inc. was co-founded in 1987 by Connie and Howard Clery, following the murder of their daughter, Jeanne Ann Clery, in 1986 at Lehigh University. Safe Harbor is inviting you to join the campaign by hosting activities and events throughout the entire month of September. In early September, Safe Harbor sponsored a kick-off event to begin the activities. Other activities during the month will include the distribution of safety information and flashlights (sponsored by Safe Harbor) and a cross-walk safety event. Your organization (particularly student organizations), office or department is encouraged to join Safe Harbor in this important initiative. This year, the SOC, Inc. is sponsoring a competition among universities and colleges. At the end of September a report of Auburn University's events and activities will be compiled and submitted to SOC, Inc. To be included in that report, you will be asked to send a brief summary of your event to Julia James, Safe Harbor Advocate. You may include pictures when available. Please submit your report by e-mail no later than Sept. 24 to jamesjb@auburn.edu or paper form to 202 Cater Hall. For additional information regarding SOC, Inc., visit www.securityoncampus.org. For information regarding Safe Harbor's initiative, please call Julia James at 844-4710 or jamesjb@auburn.edu. Please plan on participating in this safety awareness campaign for Auburn University.
