OIT issues virus alert for campus e-mail users
Campus e-mail users are cautioned to avoid fake CNN e-mail alerts which are circulating extensively around the Internet. These messages may contain the subject line "CNN Alerts: My Custom Alert" or "CNN.com Daily Top 10". Clicking on the link inside the message will launch a pop-up window asking the user to "get the latest version of Flash" by downloading a file named get_flash_update.exe. Don't do it! This Web link is not legitimate and clicking on it may infect your computer with a virus or other malicious files. Auburn University's Ironmail system is blocking many of these messages and marking them as SPAM. If one gets through to your inbox, delete it. For additional information on this threat and other ways to keep your computer safe online, visit http://www.auburn.edu/oit/security_center/. If you believe your computer has already been infected, please contact the OIT HelpDesk at helpdesk@auburn.edu or 844-4944 for assistance.
