Psychology chair steps down, continues treatment programs

Barry Burkhart is stepping down as chair of the Psychology Department in the College of Liberal Arts. He has served in the position since 2002. Psychology professor Dan Svyantek succeeds Burkhart in the position. Burkhart, who has been at Auburn for the past 34 years, recently developed an innovative program to provide psychological expertise for the Department of Youth Services program for juvenile sex offenders and serves as the director of this program for males ages 11 to 21. Burkhart will continue his work with the program even after his retirement as psychology chair, and will also return to teaching.
